Staying here
The farmhouse is available to individuals and couples Thursday through Sunday, with other days potentially available after some discussion. It is rural, your car is going to get dirty, and there will be farm dogs around. Most guests like it exactly for those reasons.
It is a small space, but how much do you need, really? There is an open living area with a wood burning stove for cooler months and central air conditioning for Oklahoma summers.
There is one bedroom with a standard mattress, and a pullout twin sofa bed in the front study for whoever of the two of you drew the short straw. It’s really not a bad pullout mattress. There is one bathroom off the main bedroom. If you would be okay sharing a hotel room with someone, you’ll be okay with them in the farmhouse.
The kitchen has pots, pans, utensils, glasses, and plates, and a few essentials such as salt, pepper, and oil, but not much else in the way of anything to eat. The nearest hamburger is in Hulbert, and that is at a gas station. The nearest fork that isn’t plastic is in Tahlequah or at The Canebrake on the other side of Lake Fort Gibson.
The farmhouse is a place for unwinding, unplugging (although there is fast wifi), and being in nature. People who do it right come for two or three nights with supplies for meals, and maybe head to Tahlequah for lunch or dinner once, just for variety. You can see the neighbor’s lights in the winter, and our house is about 300 paces to the west back behind the oak barn, but it’s pretty isolated. It’s a quiet place, and everyone likes it that way.
Inside there are 3000 books with something to offend or entertain everyone, if you look around enough. Outside there are 250 acres of pasture, woods, and the creek. Wandering outside in tall grass and woods isn’t advisable during the summer, but wading in the creek sure is. In the fall and winter, the woods beg to be explored. There is a deck overlooking the lower pasture that is tall with Johnson grass in the summer but bare in winter. Binoculars and a spotlight aid in seeing wildlife.
